Cleaning tip: How to Remove Tough Carpet Stains

Carpets can help to liven up a home and make it look cosy, but carpet stains will make your home look messy instead. Keeping carpets looking clean and fresh can prove to be a challenge especially when it comes to stubborn carpet stains. This guide will provide you with some methods and solutions to removing some of the most stubborn carpet stains. Do bear in mind, however, that the effectiveness of carpet stain removal will also depend on your type of carpet. Remove Rust Stains on Carpet

Rust stains can be difficult to remove due to their unique chemical composition. We recommend getting a carpet stain remover specifically made for rust stains to prevent any further damage to your carpet. To attain the best results, pair the remover with natural ingredients that help to break down rust.

1. Apply copious amounts of carpet stain remover on the affected area with a sponge

2. Leave it to soak for 5 minutes before scrubbing the stain with a sponge soaked in warm water. You should be able to see immediate results.

3. Apply lemon juice liberally over the stain and cover the area with salt. Let it sit for a day.

4.  Rinse the area by dabbing with a wet towel or sponge. Repeat the steps if necessary.

 

Remove Shoe Polish from Carpet

The key step to removing shoe polish from your carpet is to act quickly.

1. Scrap away any residual shoe polish from the stained area. Be mindful not to rub the stain to prevent the polish from setting deeper into the carpet.

2. Using a sponge, gently dab the stain with water and carpet stain remover.

3. Rinse your sponge regularly in a pail of warm water whenever you manage to pick up the shoe polish.

4. Repeat until the stain has faded.

To remove ink from the carpet, we have two methods to recommend.

1. Blot the ink spot with a dry cloth to remove excess ink. Proceed to dab the spot with alcohol by using a clean cloth.

2. Cover the ink spot with a layer of salt and leave it to sit for 8 hours or overnight. Then, vacuum the spot to get rid of the salt granules and the ink should be lifted off along with the salt.

 

Remove Oil Stains from Carpets

Oil stains are relatively easy to remove. Simply follow these steps:

1. Blot the oil stain with a paper towel repeatedly until the paper towel is no longer picking up any oil.

2. Apply rubbing alcohol on the stain and dab it with a clean cloth.

3. If the stain is slightly stubborn, try mixing a small amount of dishwashing liquid with water and apply it directly on the stain with a sponge.

Like shoe polish, red wine carpet stains should be dealt with as quickly as possible to prevent a permanent stain.

1. Immediately use a piece of clean cloth to dab the stain
2. Apply comercial carpet stain remover and rinse it out with a wet sponge.
3. Alternatively, you can use vinegar instead. Pour some vinegar on the stain before covering the stain with laundry detergent. Leave it to sit before rinsing it off with water by using a sponge.
4. For light carpets, you can consider applying a solution of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to the stain. Let the solution sit for about 5 minutes before rinsing it off with water.
